"It's important to know the history behind the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School, which was  previously a segregated school for black people, but now is open again to everyone to learn about  its rich past. The Rosenwald School is a big school. It looks the same, a little bit on the inside. You still have the divider between the two rooms. When you look at it from the outside, you will see white on it and two stairways. In my quilt, you will see a teacher and students working.

This image is based on a historical photograph from the alumni collection, showing the children and teacher from the 1950s. The students closer to the windows are looking out and daydreaming. I wondered what they were looking at.Maybe wildlife. Back then, the windows were not expensive, but now they are expensive. The friends of the school really wanted the windows to keep its look like it did before. Also, the students had a hard time getting to school through the weather. When it would rain, it would make everything muddy, which would be hard to move in. Even though it was hard for them to go to school, they wanted a good education."
