My project is inspired by Charity Ray. Charity Ray was an alumni of the Marshall Anderson Rosenwald School. She also served on the Friends Committee that helped save the building and preserve the history.I think this is significant because it shows the challenges faced with African Americans during segregation. The black school children received hand-me-down books from their white school, which were worn and torn. This little school was built in 1928 on faith and hope.I got this information from a short film called Preserving a Legacy that interviewed Charity Ray, where she stated her memories and her experiences.
