Our Approach
Our mission is to educate and empower girls so they can become leaders in an ever evolving Appalachia.
Place-Based Innovation
Our Signature Learning Labs Bolster Out-of-Classroom Engagement
Through innovative, high quality, place-based education The Partnership for Appalachian Girls’ Education (PAGE) creates ladders of opportunity for girls in rural Appalachia so they can imagine their futures and achieve their dreams. Our signature STEAM and Story Labs are designed and led by skilled project facilitators - working scientists, historians, and artists - who create hands-on learning experiences and serve as mentors and examples of future pathways to success. Our free year-round offerings, which include after-school and summer programs for rising 6th through 12th graders, combine interdisciplinary educational opportunities with supportive mentorships that connect girls with leaders in their communities and help them build intergenerational relationships as well as lasting friendships.
Additionally, in our high school fellowship program, girls complete internships in fields they are interested in and they learn specific skills they need to succeed, from writing college entrance essays to practicing professional communication and completing resumes. In our Mobile PAGE program, we work in close relationship with community partners outside of our founding site in Madison County to adapt our successful PAGE model for the needs of diverse communities so we can offer tailored life changing educational opportunities for more girls. Our multi-faceted approach is focused on the whole student - from skills-based learning, to healthy food offerings, to wellness activities - and is designed to help girls value and give voice to their own stories and to the stories of a vibrant Appalachia.
