"Miss Owens and Miss Wilson, who both teach here, photographed each other and students  on a field trip to the Smoky Mountains near the end of the school year in 1953. Miss Owens is shown in a photograph in front of a wall of greenery holding a camera. This collection of photos that included the one this work was inspired by was in Miss Wilsons collection, provided to us by Fatimah' Shabazz, her daughter, another alumni of the school. This field trip showed that both teachers cared enough about their students and their education to go the extra step and show them the world."
